Programs
Program Overview
The Harbor Home operates in two phases: Phase 1, residents are guided through study and counseling to address their root causes of addiction and pursue healing; and Phase 2, which focuses on skill enhancement, re-entering the work force, and preparing for independent living upon graduation. Once residents graduate from the Harbor Home, they move into a new home with the support of our team and maintaining connections as needed.
Program Phases
Phase 1
Our Phase 1 Program is typically a 6–7 month residential program where women participate in classes, workshops, and faith-based studies designed to address the root causes of addiction. The focus of this approach is to identify and heal from trauma in order to develop healthy coping skills. We help residents engage in Bible-based curriculum and book studies that focus on mindset change, identity, overcoming guilt and shame, and breaking destructive thought patterns.
Residents are further supported by weekly individual counseling with a licensed therapist and medical support during their stay. Women also participate in community service projects and work opportunities such as the Handy Helpers social enterprise. Limited, medically supervised medications are allowed when appropriate, family visitations may begin after 30 days, and support is provided to maintain safe contact with children. Our goal in each of these program elements is to ensure residents are holistically supported as they heal and enter long-term recovery.
Phase 2
The Phase 2 Program requires residents to attend weekly classes on Mondays, but allows for off-site employment through local business on Tuesday-Friday. Our goal with this phase is to help each woman regain their independence while continuing to build healthy coping methods and establishing disciplines to maintain sobriety. This phase generally lasts six months, though ultimately timing depends on the individual and their growth.
Phase 3
After Phase 2, residents graduate from the Harbor Home and are assisted in moving back into their own house or finding a new residence. As they re-enter independent living our team is available for support as graduates need. Our residents have around a 75% success rate in maintaining sobriety once back in day-to-day life, and we are so proud of each woman who has persisted to gain back their freedom from addiction!
